One of Barrie Soccer Club’s proudest achievements is ensuring that 100% of Development and Competitive coaches are CPR certified. This milestone strengthens safety, awareness, and preparedness across all our teams. As of 2026, all BSC recreational coaches are also required to complete CPR & AED Awareness training – Learning How to Save a Life in 60 Minutes. To support this initiative, we have partnered with Action First Aid, who will continue to certify our coaches moving forward.
Project 100 Canada
Sudden cardiac arrest strikes athletes without warning. Rapid CPR and access to an AED within 100 seconds are critical for survival. This video shows what Sudden Cardiac Arrest looks like, and the impact of preparation. This video also showcases the story of Nina Taft and how timely action on a soccer field helped save her life at just 13 years old.
Inspired by the mission of Washington-based Project 100, we aim to bring the same protection to Canadian sports fields: ensuring 100% have access to an AED within 100 seconds, and that 100% of coaches and players are trained to respond.
Join the mission that is guaranteed to save lives.
Coaches Challenge
Sudden cardiac arrest is the leading cause of sudden death in youth sports. But it doesn’t have to be. This video challenges coaches and teams to test their emergency response with a simple timed drill. Sports cardiologist Dr. Jonathan Drezner from the University of Washington’s Center for Sports Cardiology explains why this matters: survival drops sharply with each minute of delay, but rapid CPR and early AED use can dramatically improve outcomes.
Can your team recognize sudden cardiac arrest, call 911, retrieve an AED, begin CPR, and deliver the first shock within 3 minutes?
Run the drill with your players and coaches to measure how prepared your team really is. If the AED cannot reach the athlete within three minutes, your emergency response plan needs improvement. Take the challenge. Time your team. Improve your response. It truly can save a life.
