DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM (U8-U13)

Building the Foundation

The Barrie Soccer Club’s Development Program is designed for players aged U8 to U13 who have a solid foundation in soccer, typically through House League or similar programs, and are passionate about improving their skills. The goal of this program is to prepare players for the competitive phase at U14+.

Our curriculum is created by the Club Technical Director and delivered by qualified Development Leads and Coaches. This tailor-made program focuses on the four key components of player development: technical, tactical, physical, and psychosocial, while instilling core values that build character.

Holistic Approach

BSC follows a Four-Corner Development Model:

  • Physical

  • Technical

  • Tactical

  • Psychosocial

This philosophy is embedded in every training session. Coaches receive ongoing education through courses, meetings, workshops, and on-field sessions led by the Technical Director and Ontario Soccer. Every BSC coach working with a team must complete an onboarding process including a coach development session, be certified in First Aid with CPR & AED training, have completed a police check (Vulnerable Sector Check), and be up to date on completion of their age group specific coaching requirements.

Stages of Player Development

FUNDAMENTALS (U7-U9)

At this stage, individual player development takes center stage with a focus on freedom and fun. Players are introduced to the “3 Cs” — Communication, Cooperation, and Coordination- while building confidence through age-appropriate activities. Using Ontario Soccer’s Five Pillar Model, we emphasize technical skills, 1v1 and 2v2 attacking/defending, and guided discovery to empower players and nurture creativity on the field. Sessions are curated by BSC technical staff.

Learn to Train (U10-U13)

Known as the “Golden Age of Learning,” this stage is all about skill development and creativity. Players begin to look up to role models and want to learn imaginative techniques, making skill demonstration and active participation essential. At this age, children transition from being self-focused to self-critical, showing high energy and enthusiasm during training. Our program emphasizes learning through doing, fostering confidence, technical ability, and a love for the game. Sessions are curated by BSC technical staff.

Team Management

Teams manage their own budgets, including sponsorships and fundraising to offset team specific fees. A volunteer Team Manager oversees finances, planning, and game-day coordination.
