Development Programs

Micro Soccer Program
The Barrie Soccer Club have introduced a new structure of play for the entry level children in our soccer community. This program is for 4, 5 & 6 years olds and will allow for an atmosphere of fun in a soccer friendly environment. It takes place on Saturday mornings to allow family members to enjoy a fun, relaxing atmosphere. Micro Soccer is designed to allow the kids to play small sided games in a fun environment with the opportunity for more involvement and more ball touches. The new 4 v 4 concept has proven to be a positive adjustment in the soccer development of young children.

U7 Development Program
Once again the Barrie Soccer Club will be offering our introductory development program at U7. The focus of the program will be to improve the individual skills of the player in a fun, challenging and positive environment. Some of the ‘core’ skills we will be working on are, shooting, passing, ball mastery and 1 versus 1 attacking. There is NO charge for this program and it is voluntary; but highly recommended; to attend all sessions. Schedule.

U8 Development Program
The Under 8 division for both girl’s and boys will be tiered into two divisions. Tiering the House League has proven to be an effective way to enhance youth players interest and development. The results of tiering has allowed for more kids at various ability and interest levels to develop. An example of this is when there are 3-4 strong players on a team, they dominate the ball and in general the game. By moving these players to another division, the remaining players get more involved, take on leadership roles and acquire more interest and confidence. The benefits are greater!! Our goal as a club is to give the opportunity for more kids to develop their skills and it gives the Club a larger pool of players that can take part in future Club programs.

U9 Select Program
This program is designed for players who are looking for a greater challenge than House League. The Select Program is a progression in development for kids and coaches to have the opportunity to compete against other communities in Huronia District on a weekly basis. This is not a Rep program but mirrors some of its characteristics, i.e. selection, practice, play outside of the Barrie Soccer Club House League, travel and play against other Huronia Clubs.
More information.

Goalkeeping Development
The Barrie Soccer Club provides a service where the ‘Number 1’ can get position specific training from our qualified GK Staff Coach. This is an excellent opportunity to hone your skills and get instruction on the art of goalkeeping and become a better goalkeeper. There is NO charge for this program and it is voluntary; but highly recommended; to attend all sessions. Goalkeepr sessions take place at the Barrie Soccer Club Development Centre on Hwy 26 and Currie Drive in Midhurst.

U9 Select Winter Development Program

For players born in 2002; this program will focus on working on the skill sets of the individual player. The 2010/11 U9 Select Winter Development Program will begin with a selection process on August 21 & 22, 2010. (See Calendar) A pool of up to 30 players will be selected to take part in the Winter Development Program that will run from November 2010 to March 2011. The Winter Development training sessions will take place at Georgian College once per week on Sundays and will be directed by the Clubs Technical Staff. There is a cost for the Winter Development Program based on facility rentals.

At the conclusion of the program another selection process will take place for those players who have the desire to play at the Select level against other communities within Huronia (see U9 Select Program).

Coach Development Program

The BSC is fortunate to have a number of individuals in the club that have a Provincial B coaching license or greater. This qualified technical staff consists of a Club Head Coach, several Master Mentor Coaches and Goalkeeper Coach. This team allows the club to run a very successful high quality coaching program. All coaches are offered three OSA clinics per year, as well as several pre-season House League coaching session’s that are age group specific. Monthly technical sessions are available for all Rep level coaching staff. Rep coaches are encouraged and supported to experience the Provincial “Pre-B” Coaching Clinic.

Referee Development Program

Held in early spring under the auspices of the Ontario Soccer Association, participants must pass a course to qualify to referee in the BSC. These are paid positions which the Club offers to our members beginning at age 12. The Club employs mentors who then assess the referees and assist in their development. More information.
