Barrie Soccer Club Partners With Special Olympics Again to Host Soccer Tournament...
For the 2nd year in a row, the Special Olympics and the Barrie Soccer Club will host a soccer tournament on August 16, 2009 at the Barrie Soccer Club Development Centre (Currie Drive). This year's event will showcase 9 teams from cities including Owen Sound, Newmarket, Vaughan and Barrie. Opening ceremonies kick off at 9:00am and games will follow throughout the day.
Last year 12 teams attended the event split up into 2 divisions. The athletes had a great time and the weather was spectacular. A big part of their success was also contributed to the generousity of the Barrie Soccer Club referees, who donated their time at the tournament which was greatly appreciated. |

Soccer Club honours Johnny's wish to "Send A Kid to Soccer Camp"
Johnny Rose, an avid soccer enthusiast, long time member and friend of the Barrie Soccer Club passed away on October 7, 2008 after a courageous battle with cancer. Although Johnny is deeply missed by his many friends and family, his legacy lives on with his last wish to set up a “Send a Kid to Soccer Camp” fund.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations were made by many friends to the Barrie Soccer Club. Now to honour this request, the Club has used the donations to make spots available to 15 local Barrie kids in one of two weeks of Soccer Camp--August 10-14 or August 17-21. |

"SHHHHHH! The Kids Are Playing" Week Sponsored by Lowe's! June 22 - June 26, 2009
The Barrie Soccer Club is proud to welcome to the community Lowe's: The Home Improvement Warehouse. We are even more proud to announce them as the sponsor of "Shhhhhhh! The Kids Are Playing" week.
This program will be in effect for all our House League games from U8-U14 (boys and girls) during the week of June 22-June 26, 2009. The purpose of this program is to eliminate instruction from the sidelines which will allow players to make their own decisions while also encouraging players to communicate among themselves during the game.
The Barrie Soccer Club requests that all coaches and parents/guardians please support this project by wearing the Shhhh! sticker during their child's game. During this week we encourage parents and spectators to be quiet during the game and find other creative ways to encourage or cheer on their child's team (Holding up posters with encouraging words, waving or clapping).
We hope that parents and spectators realize the benefits of this type of program and continue the momentum throughout the season.

Barrie’s Elite Women’s OWSL and Men’s OSL teams will be featured with double header action this year at the BSCDC, dates to follow.

Barrie Soccer Club Celebrates its 40th Year in 2008
2008 marked the 40th anniversary of the Barrie Soccer Club. During the year, several special events were held to celebrate the Club’s involvement in providing soccer to our community. We also featured a new look for the 2008 season. All Barrie Soccer Club teams wore a special 40th Anniversary badge on their uniforms and other Club apparel. The logo was designed to pay tribute to the founders of the Club and to those who have helped soccer to grow in Barrie over the past forty years.
The Special Anniversary badge includes the Optimist Club logo which is the organization that started youth soccer in Barrie and are still an important partner of our Club in providing soccer to our community. We also honoured the Barrie City Soccer Club who for many years has been involved in senior soccer and recently joined our Club to offer a competitive senior program for men and women.
The new badge includes the iconic Spiritcatcher symbol which is part of the city’s waterfront and has been included in our former logo for many years to recognize our partnership with the City of Barrie.
Finally, the Club also unveiled our new stylized “BSC” logo in the badge which is featured on some of our Club Wear that is now available. |

BARRIE SOCCER CLUB DEVELOPMENT CENTRE GRAND OPENING
Friday, July 6, 2007 – The Barrie Soccer Club held a Grand Opening of their long awaited Barrie Soccer Club Development Centre on Friday, July 6 at 7:00pm at Development Centre’s The Hub.
Distinguished guests included both local Mayors, Tony Guergis from the Township of Springwater and Dave Aspden from the City of Barrie and Service Award recipients Jeff Dawson and Henry J. Verstraten. Also in attendance were members of the Huronia District Soccer Association, representatives of the Canadian and Ontario Soccer Associations; and Club staff, coaches and managers among others.
Radio personality and Select Coach (U18G), Randy Richards(Quinn) was the evening’s Master of Ceremonies. He first introduced the Club’s President Steve Taylor who commented on the numerous changes in the club, especially since he joined the Executive in 1997 when the dream of finding a suitable home for the club was first discussed.
He also spoke about the ongoing relationship with the Optimist Club of Barrie who started youth soccer in the city over 39 years ago. Then called the Barrie Minor Soccer Association, they started with a few hundred boys and grew to what we currently call the Barrie Soccer Club with over 5,000 players of all ages, males and females; with a professional technical and administrative staff.
Referring to the Club’s current mission statement “Commitment to Development”, Taylor added that the dedication and hard work of many people past and present allowed this dream to become a reality.
The Club’s Manager Rick Morandini was also invited up to the podium to say a few words. He spoke about the growth of the club’s professionalism, qualified coaching and office staff; informative website; and programs for the development of the club’s players such as coach/player mentor sessions and the scholarship opportunities for our university bound players.
Presentations were made to Henry J Verstraten of the Optimist Club who started the Optimist Youth Soccer Association in and to Jeff Dawson, a great soccer supporter who developed a quality senior program (Barrie City Soccer Club) for adults who wanted to play competitive soccer.
An official ribbon cutting ceremony rounded out the evening as Club President, Steve Taylor and both Mayor’s Guergis and Aspden stood in the goal mouth together to formally and officially launch the Club’s new address. |
